“Mothers Milestone”

I wanted to share with you a special gift I made for my Mom’s birthday: a handmade milestone quilt. A milestone quilt is a quilt that celebrates the life and achievements of a person, by incorporating photos, fabrics, and symbols that represent their memories, interests, and values. I used a collection of scraps I had on hand from blue and white dress shirt fabrics which I had collected over the years while working in the Fashion Industry. The variety of fabrics were then cut, and used to frame important moments and people in my Mom’s family, including her parents, her childhood, 15 brothers and sisters, her own children and grandchildren. I used a variety of techniques including machine stitching, hand sewing, applique, embroidery, hand and machine quilting. The result was a beautiful and unique quilt that showed my mother how much I appreciated and admired her. I am so glad I made this quilt for her, and I hope it will be a cherished family heirloom for generations to come.
